The Newark EMS Junior Member is a critical part of the future of Newark EMS. This program, founded in 2007, has been growing and changing over the years to better introduce interested young people to the rewards and opportunities available to EMS providers: professional and volunteer.
Designed for youths aged 14-17, the program begins in “Foundations” by exposing youth aged 14 and 15 to the realities, interest, and excitement of EMS. By using discussions, activities, drills, learning exercises, team building workshops, and EMS experience, the Newark EMS Junior Membership program seeks to:
1. Encourage interest in EMS
2. Educate young people in the realities and rewards of public service
3. Engage in national pursuit of volunteerism among our youth
4. Evolve the agency with the changing needs of EMS in the 21st Century
5. Prepare our kids for a future in EMS
Our Junior Membership Director is Alicia Catalano.
Alicia is a lifelong Newark resident, graduated from Newark High School in 2001 and currently lives in the village with her husband and family. She has been an EMT since 2012 and employed as a CNA at the Wayne County Nursing Home for 20 years.
