Message from the Chief
As Chief of Newark-Arcadia EMS, I would like to welcome you to our web site, which has been designed to provide useful, informative and comprehensive information about our multi-faceted organization. Our primary mission of providing for the emergency medical needs of the Village of Newark and the Town of Arcadia has not changed and remains our number one priority. An integral part of that mission is our commitment to provide the highest level of care available, with well trained personnel using state of the art equipment and vehicles. Our transition from a solely volunteer based model to a combined full time paid staff/volunteer model, while costly, has made it possible to provide round the clock coverage with certified Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. We are continually striving to maintain a strong volunteer component to staff our back-up ambulances and supplement our paid crews. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers who can download an application from our site.
When I was hired as Chief we began to address our revenue shortfalls with a number of new initiatives designed to bring in funding to help sustain and enhance our emergency response capabilities. In 2013, we responded to this need by the creation of an ambulette service to serve the non-emergent needs of the area with a reliable medical transport service. We also pursued an opportunity to provide EMS staffing services to facilities and organizations needing on-site EMS personnel for their daily and event operations. In addition to these ventures, we now offer a wide array of medical trainings to the health care community, as well as to businesses and industrial facilities. Our training center provides regional EMS training to other agencies and community based programs for area residents and organizations. All of these new services have successfully met or exceeded our initial goals.
While I am proud of our accomplishments, there is much more to do to both maintain what we have and to evaluate our future needs and direction. EMS is a dynamic field which requires an open mind to accept and meet new challenges and opportunities when they arise. Community Paramedicine is one example of some of the many exciting opportunities that lie ahead for those open to progress and change. With my competent staff and management team, I feel that we are well poised to meet these challenges and to confidently maintain our current standards of excellence and service to a great community.
In closing, I would like to thank you for visiting our web site and for your interest in Newark-Arcadia EMS. We welcome you to our base during business hours to meet staff, ask questions, or take a tour. We are always looking for volunteers and offer many free training opportunities for those who wish to join our team. Have a great day!
